Today, the 5th of May 2019 wraps up another national championship for the NFSAM and for the 4th time in a row we had to seek a sheltered venue due to strong winds, this time a forecast of force 6, gusting force 7 at times from the NW. We were lucky enough to get a last minute permit from MIDI plc to fish the 4th match from Manoel Island facing Valletta and hence, with the wind blowing from behind, this did not effect our anglers who had a very beautiful venue to fish in today.
Overall winner for the day was Aaron Xuereb for Kingfisher who secured a weight just shy of 3kgs (2.95kg) with a variety of fish caught but mostly the sought after parrot fish. 2nd place was secured by non other than this year’s national champion Carmelo Quattrocchi of Kingfisher who caught 2.12kg of fish, once again parrot fish and the odd grey mullet being the protagonists for this good weight. On the other hand, John Azzopardi from Denci Fishing club, who was pegged in the same section as Aaron, managed a 3rd place overall in this match and also a runner up 2nd place in the overall placings for the championships.
Hence, after match 4, Carmelo Quattrocchi is declared new national champion with only 4 penalty points followed by John Azzopardi with 6 penalty points and 3rd overall goes to Raymond Farrugia with 7 penalty points. 4th overall went to Aaron Xuereb with 8 penalty points and 5th overall went to Antione Borg with 9 penalty points.
